The Co-op is urgently recalling its hollow milk chocolate Santa figures after two alleged tampering incidents.

The UK-wide product recall - which also affects independent members of the Co-op's buying group including Lincolnshire Co-op - was begun after two separate incidents where small batteries were found inside the chocolate Santas.

The police and Food Standards Agency have been informed and investigations have begun.

Customers who have one of these products are being advised not to eat them and to call the Co-op customer relations line - 0800 0686 727 - for a full refund or with any concerns.

The chocolate Santas were one of three free gifts on offer for Lincolnshire Co-op's junior members, who were sent a voucher with Christmas cards.

These vouchers are valid until 24th December - if any junior members wish to redeem the voucher, they can still claim one of the other products on the voucher or a suitable replacement product if the other items are out of stock (maximum value of £1).

Junior members who already have a chocolate Santa are being advised not to eat them and to return them to a Lincolnshire Co-op food store where they will be offered a suitable replacement product.

Anyone with any concerns is asked to call the Co-op customer relations line on 0800 0686727.
