Choosing the right oral contraception for you is an important decision, and our pharmacists can help to make this process easier and simpler for you. You can now walk into your local Lincolnshire Co-op pharmacy and receive advice and supply for oral contraception. We can also support with choosing a new pill, a pill change or review.
This service is NHS funded and accessible in all of our pharmacies without the need to book an appointment, simply walk in. Our committed pharmacists are ready to provide confidential consultations in one of our consultation rooms.

New - Our pharmacists can supply you with oral contraception following a consultation.
Change – Following a consultation, our pharmacists can offer you an alternative oral contraceptive.
Repeat – Get your oral contraceptives dispensed within your local pharmacy, without any delay.
Review – Conduct your pill review at your local pharmacy, making it easier for you to keep up to date with your contraception.
Types of oral contraception:
Combined pill
Hormonal contraception that contains oestrogen and progestogen. The pill prevents pregnancy by stopping the ovaries releasing an egg each month. The pill has over 99% efficacy if used correctly at all times. The combined pill may also help with acne, painful or heavy periods, premenstrual syndrome, and endometriosis. Talk to your pharmacist or other healthcare professional to find out more.
Progesterone pill
Hormonal contraception that only contains progestogen. The pill prevents pregnancy by stopping the ovaries releasing an egg each month. The pill has over 99% efficacy if used correctly at all times. The progesterone only pill may help with painful or heavy periods, and endometriosis. Talk to your pharmacist or other healthcare professional to find out more.
How to access contraception services:
It's straightforward — no appointment is needed. Simply visit your local Lincolnshire Co-op Pharmacy and ask about the service. Eligibility for treatment under the NHS Contraception service involves a suitability assessment with a pharmacist, and prescription charges may apply.

What type of oral contracpetion can I get?
Our pharmacies can provide the combined pill and the progesterone pill, following a consultation.
Do you offer morning after pills or plan B?
We can offer a morning after pill solution, however, this is a private service and will incur a fee. If you need this service, visit your local pharmacy and we can provide a consultation.
Who can access contraception services?
We can provide oral contraception to people who have started their period until and including the age of 54. Note that the age of 54 years old applies only to the progestogen pill. For the combined pill, we can provide contraception to people up to and including the age of 49 years old.
Will my GP be told about my consultation?
If the pharmacist gives you the contraceptive pill they will tell your GP, but only if you give permission for them to do so. This information will not be shared with anyone else.
What do I need to bring to my consultation?
There is no need to bring anything to your consultation. All we ask for is your full name, address and date of birth.
What happens during my initial consultation?
During your initial consultation, our pharmacist will discuss contraception options with you, including long-acting reversible contraception (LARCs). Your pharmacist will then measure your height, check your weight and conduct a blood pressure test if applicable. A health questionnaire will also be conducted to determine which contraception method is correct for you. Following these checks, your pharmacist will discuss the best options available for your contraception.
What happens during my pill review?
During your pill review consultation, our pharmacist will discuss your progress with your current contraception method. Your pharmacist will then measure your height, check your weight and conduct a blood pressure test if applicable. If clinically appropriate, your pharmacist will repeat your supply of contraception.
How much is the contraception service?
The contraception service is free at the point of use and is fully funded by the NHS. Consultations and any pills provided are done so free of charge.
What if there is no pharmacist available?
If there is no pharmacist available, our team will take your name and telephone number. With this information, our team will arrange a consultation for you with a pharmacist when they are available.
Do you offer other forms of contraception?
We provide other contraception methods with over-the-counter products, such as condoms.
