Supporting The Poppy Appeal

Image of Poppy-Appeal-2018-Bracebridge-Heath-24.JPG for Supporting The Poppy Appeal

This year, The Royal British Legion made an urgent call for an army of volunteers to support The Poppy Appeal and colleagues at Lincolnshire Co-op have stepped up to help.

Like many other causes, The Poppy Appeal has been badly affected by the current pandemic. The Legion normally distributes over 40 million poppies every year to fund its vital work in supporting the Armed Forces community.

Unfortunately, the charity has announced that 50 per cent of its usual volunteers will be unable to assist in the distribution and fundraising efforts this year. As this campaign usually generates approximately 50 per cent of the British Legion’s income, the charity asked local communities for support in these difficult times.

These services are needed now more than ever, as many in the community experience additional hardships, such as a change in financial circumstances and increasing levels of social isolation.

Following this appeal, over 70 Lincolnshire Co-op colleagues have volunteered their time to work as poppy distributors and collect donations, pledging a total of 265 hours to the cause.

If you see volunteers in our outlets, be sure to say hello, pick up your poppy, and donate what you can to support this important cause.
