Local animal charities and sanctuaries which look after all species of animals - from canines to cats, snakes to seals, hedgehogs to horses and more - will benefit from extra support thanks to the £151,000 raised through Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions scheme.
From December 2019 until the end of February 2020, the scheme raised the phenomenal amount in various ways.
Every time a member shopped with their dividend card a donation was added into the pot. The money collected through the carrier bag levy is also added as well as the collection boxes in our outlets helping us reach the staggering total.
Colleagues across our business took part in many fundraising events and some of our outlets were even lucky enough to have a variety of animals from The Lincolnshire Wildlife Park visit the stores, including snakes and parrots 🐍🦜 – some going down a treat more than others with customers!
Several groups received a share of the total including The Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (£26,725), Northcote Heavy Horses in Spilsby (£11,405), Radcliffe Animal Centre (RSPCA) in Radcliffe on Trent (£12,551) and more.
Ella Carpenter, animal centre manager at Radcliffe Animal Centre, explained how the donation will help them. “The money raised will help to provide vital veterinary treatment to animals to get them back on their feet. It will essentially help the lives of many, many animals.”
Mysie Fellows, fundraising co-ordinator at Bransby Horses, wanted to thank Lincolnshire Co-op members for shopping and donating spare change. "We really, really appreciate it. It's going to go to really good use for the equines at Bransby Horses."
