Lincolnshire Co-op launches self-checkouts across 95 food stores
Lincolnshire Co-op has partnered with The Barcode Warehouse (TBW) to respond to changing shopper habits, through the rollout of a new self-checkout solution designed to give customers greater choice and convenience.
This £1.5m investment will not only provide shoppers with greater flexibility in how they complete purchases, but it will also help stores increase checkout capability, improve customer flow and manage queues more effectively during busy trading periods.
The rollout of self-checkouts launched in summer 2026 and over 550,000 transactions have already been completed through the new units.
Andy Warman, Lincolnshire Co-op's Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer, said: “The introduction of self-checkouts across our food stores represents an important step in enhancing the shopper experience for our customers.
“Working with The Barcode Warehouse, we have delivered a solution that provides greater convenience, reduces queuing times, and gives customers more choice in how they shop.
“This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to continuing to deliver high standards of customer service and embracing innovation technology that adds value for our communities.”
The project further strengthens a successful relationship between Lincolnshire Co-op and The Barcode Warehouse, which has supplied and supported the retailer’s in-store technology estate for more than three years.
Sam Eade (pictured below, far left), Project Manager at Lincolnshire Co-op, said: “From the initial planning stages to implementation and colleague training, this project with The Barcode Warehouse has been a true team effort.
“We’re proud of what has been achieved through this fantastic collaboration and it’s rewarding to already see the benefits of faster transactions for customers and more time for colleagues to be available on the shop floor.”
Jason Datt (pictured above, far right), Head of Retail at The Barcode Warehouse, said: “Retailers are increasingly looking at how technology can remove friction from the shopping journey while helping stores operate more efficiently. Self-checkout has become an important part of that balance, giving customers greater choice and convenience while helping colleagues focus on delivering excellent service where it’s needed most.
“At The Barcode Warehouse, our role goes beyond supplying technology. We work closely with retailers to understand their operational challenges, customer expectations and long-term goals, helping them identify solutions that deliver measurable benefits in-store. Through our long-standing relationship with Lincolnshire Co-op, we’ve been able to support the rollout of a self-checkout solution that not only enhances the customer experience but also provides the flexibility and scalability needed to support future store innovation.
