12.3 million people in the UK are at increased risk of getting type 2 diabetes – so we’re offering FREE diabetes checks which are available at selected pharmacies. Being overweight or predisposed to Type 2 diabetes can lead to serious health problems. Here’s how to get a grip on your blood sugar levels.
Take action
Adopting a healthy lifestyle and bringing down blood glucose levels can prevent you from developing Type 2 diabetes or put your diabetes into remission. We can weigh you weekly and give you details of the free NHS 12-week weight-loss programme with our weight management programme. And you can find out more here.
Know the risks
Some groups are particularly at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, including those from Asian, African and Caribbean origin, as well as anyone who has a family history of Type 2 diabetes. If you are pre-diabetic – which means you have signs of becoming diabetic – changing your diet and increasing the amount of exercise you do can stop you developing diabetes. If you already have Type 2 diabetes, these lifestyle changes can help put your condition into remission.
Spot the signs
If you’re feeling tired, thirsty, are going to the toilet a lot or have significant unexplained weight loss it’s worth going to your Lincolnshire Co-op. Here we can take a small blood sample, which will tell us whether you need more in-depth tests.
Come see us
If you’re worried about diabetes pop into your local Lincolnshire Co-op pharmacy and we’ll be able to support. We can give you a free diabetes test to see if you have the condition or not. It’s simple and only takes a minute. Find out more and watch a video about the test on our website here.
