During National Apprenticeship Week between 4th to 8th March Lincolnshire Co-op is sharing the stories of some of its amazing apprentices.

The Society currently employs 58 across the business, ranging from those taking level 2 qualifications to master’s degrees.

Together, they're helping Lincolnshire Co-op provide valued services for those working and living in local communities.

Here’s what two of apprentices had to say about their experiences so far…

Pollyanna Dickson, a travel apprentice at Louth Travel

“I was in a job that I didn’t feel was going anywhere and I fancied a change. Since joining the apprenticeship scheme I’ve enjoyed it and it’s been great to be learning and earning.

“Before I started I didn’t realise the various aspects of a travel agent role and it’s much more than just booking holidays.

“As part of the apprenticeship you have to do coursework as well, which is great as I always hated exams. There’s people to help you if you’re stuck and my manager is very supportive, allowing me to take time away from the desk to study.

“You’re also getting a regular wage and at the end of it you get a qualification. It’s definitely a career path I want to choose, and this apprentice scheme has helped me towards my goal.”

Sasha Peall, a pharmacy apprentice at Louth Pharmacy

“I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do when I left school, but I knew I wanted to earn. I studied biology and I wanted to do something with that. The opportunity came up on a job search and something about it interested me.

“After leaving school I was worried about the amount of academic work you had to do, but it’s a lot more relaxed than you think. You work alongside people who are experienced in the job, so you learn plenty of new things. It’s definitely helped me to grow up and understand what the working world is like.

“The job has definitely made me want to stay in the community pharmacy industry. I’d love to carry on in the job but there are so many different pathways I can choose to do now. It’s guided me towards a career I’m passionate about and I’m focused on what I want to do next. It’s been an enjoyable experience.”
