Award wings its way to travel outlets

Colleagues in Lincolnshire Co-op’s travel branches have won national industry recognition for their hard work and outstanding efforts.

Lincolnshire Co-op has 14 travel outlets across its trading area, from Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire to Spalding in the south of Lincolnshire.

And because they’re not tied to any single tour operator they can book trips with over 200 suppliers for holidaymakers, from finding fun UK family breaks to making dream destinations come true, and give plenty of friendly advice along the way.

Now, they’ve been named TIPTO Independent Agency of the Year in the Travel Weekly Agent Achievement Awards.

The accolade was presented to Lincolnshire Co-op during a glamorous awards ceremony in London in July. The Agent Achievement Awards are a major celebration of the travel trade in the UK, with 1,000 people attending this year’s ceremony.

Lincolnshire Co-op Travel Group Manager Wayne Dennett said: “This award is testament to each and every colleague involved in our travel business and the valued services they provide.

“Together they do everything possible to make sure our customers can book the perfect holiday, from giving independent, friendly advice in branches and booking amazing excursions to building relationships with suppliers and attending training behind the scenes. We couldn’t be prouder of them all.”

The award recognised how Lincolnshire Co-op travel colleagues are encouraged to develop their skills and grow. A number of branch managers and assistant branch managers began their journeys as Lincolnshire Co-op apprentices, and new apprentices continue to start their careers with the Society today.

It also recognised the rapport between the Society’s travel colleagues and TIPTO, a group of independent tour operators and suppliers, which gives an even wider range of choice for customers booking their breaks with Lincolnshire Co-op.

Judges were impressed by the year-round support for good causes by travel colleagues and generous holiday makers together, through the Society’s Community Champions scheme. Customers can choose to donate £1 when booking their break, and a whopping £10,200 was raised this way as part of a £143,400 donation to leading men’s charity Prostate Cancer UK in spring.

The award follows other achievements including the creation of a new Lincolnshire Co-op travel branch in Retford last December plus new homes for the Society’s Grantham Travel branch and its Tritton Road Travel outlet in Lincoln earlier this year.

The Agent Achievement Awards ceremony was hosted by comedian Rob Beckett alongside Travel Weekly Editor-in-Chief Lucy Huxley and Travel Weekly Group Managing Director Stuart Parish.
