A problem has occurred
We're sorry but a problem has occurred. The developers have been notified and will investigate as soon as possible.
When everything stopped, our local suppliers kept going - one of which is Stokes of Lincoln. We're celebrating all the great products they make for our Love Local range and taking a behind-the-scenes look at how lockdown has been for them 💚
Stokes of Lincoln has been brewing a quality cuppa for more than 100 years ☕ If you lined up each cup sold since the café opened in High Bridge in 1937, it would reach from the Stonebow in Lincoln to Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square. Great grandson Nick Peel now heads up the business which has passed through four generations.
Coffee beans are shipped in from Brazil, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Columbia. They arrive in great hessian sacks stamped with their country of origin and piles of them line the warehouse - up to a tonne is roasted every week!
During the recent pandemic, local businesses have been finding it difficult to continue trading, with Stokes no exception, finding their team of 90 reduced to a team of 4 with just one person roasting the coffee beans each day.
Nick Peel commented:
"The co-op was a bit of a life line really....we felt sure they would look after us."
Why not have a look at our behind-the-scenes video of Stokes of Lincoln and how they have been getting on since the world came to a stop.
