The ultimate Easter hat

Chick out our showstopper of an Easter hat - why not get the kids to have a go at making their own whilst they are on their holidays. It'll be an egg-cellent edition to Easter Day!

What you'll need:

• A hat - doesn't matter what it kind. We've used a grass felt covered top hat available in most craft or party shops, but you can use a straw hat, a cap or even have a go at making your own with felt and material
• Easter chicks - big and small ones
• String of battery powered fairy lights - again it doesn't matter what kind and these are optional
• Bunny ears
• Bunny tail
• Ribbon
• Glue/staple gun (optional)/safety pins/Velcro spots (optional)

Other items you might from around the home are pipe cleaners, shredded coloured paper, feathers, stickers, pom pom's, paints and glitters

What to do:

1. First, take your fairy lights and wrap them around the base of the hat - tying at the back and holding in place with either a safety pin (make sure the pin isn't sticking out inside the hat) or by using a staple gun if you have one.
2. To secure the battery pack, we used two Velcro spots (one on the battery pack and one on the brim of the hat) to secure this in place at the back of the hat - you can stick this down with glue, but we found the Velcro spots made it easier to remove when you need to change the batteries.
3. Next, take your large Easter chicks and using the glue, stick them around the brim of your hat - you may need to leave them overnight to make sure they are stuck down well
4. Now it's time for the smaller chick - we've stuck them to the side of the hat in a random fashion, but again you can do anything you like!
5. Once you're happy that the glue has dried on all your chicks, we pinned the bunny tail to the back of the hat using a safety pin (again making sure the pin wasn't sticking out inside the hat)
6. Pop your bunny ears on top of the hat as if you were putting them on your head - you shouldn't need to stick them down.
7. Finally, tie some ribbon either around the base of the hat to hide the wires of your fairy lights, or pin it, so it falls down the back.

This is just one idea you can use to make a showstopper hat - you can do whatever you like with your own, making it as bold and bright as you like! You can even give it a theme - maybe an Easter egg hunt, a day out or a bouquet of flowers!
