Our carrier bags have gone green...

From Friday 30th April 2021 we will be switching from selling single-use carrier bags to 100% compostable, reusable bags.

Our new carrier bags are 100% compostable – they’re perfect for lining home compost caddies and are strong enough to reuse for shopping too.

Here's what you need to know about our new carrier bags:

  • Why are we switching?

Our new compostable carriers will biodegrade faster, which will reduce our impact on the environment.

Research shows a compostable bag will “completely disappear” within 3 months in sea water. A standard plastic single-use bag would still carry shopping after two years in sea water. They also have a lower carbon footprint.

  • How much are the compostable bags?

We will charge 10p per bag that a customer uses, the proceeds still go towards good causes through our Community Champions scheme

  • How can the bags be reused?

You can reuse the bags each time you do your shopping.

They make great liners for kitchen compost caddies.

They can also be used to line food waste bins in places where local authorities offer such a service - we hope this will be offered in our area in the future.

  • Can the bags be recycled?

Our bags are compostable but not recyclable, please do not put this bag or any other plastic bag into any recycling collection.
