Memorial trees let locals honour loved ones this Christmas

Memorial trees can be found in 19 Lincolnshire Co-op funeral homes, enabling locals to leave a message for loved ones that have passed away on a memorial bauble tag and then hang it on the tree.

The service is available for the whole community to use – including those that have not previously used Lincolnshire Co-op’s funeral services.

Mayor of Louth, Cllr Darren Hobson, visited Lincolnshire Co-op’s Louth Funeral Home, to open its memorial tree to the public.

After the opening of Louth’s memorial Christmas tree, colleagues held a coffee morning for the local community, and those experiencing grief were able to come together over some refreshments.

Cllr Darren Hobson said: “It’s a pleasure to join the team at Louth Funeral Home for their coffee morning. It’s a wonderful opportunity for those that the team have supported during difficult times in their lives to come together, reflect and reminisce.

“I would like to thank the team for their continued care for our community, for their dedication and professionalism, and for their compassion and comfort. It’s much appreciated by so many in our town.”

Lincolnshire Co-op funeral teams also organise memorial services for their communities in the lead up to the festive period. Louth Funeral team hosted one at St. James’ Church on Saturday 29th November, and had over 200 attendees.

Gemma Walton, Louth Funeral Director, said: “We know that Christmas can be a difficult time for those that are grieving, but these events and activities help them to see that they are not alone, and pay tribute to their loved one.

“Those that attend our memorial services or coffee mornings can take time to reflect in a safe, relaxed setting. They often connect with others through grief, and we’ve had many attendees remain friends as a result.”
