Helping green spaces together

Pull on your gardening gloves and get ready – volunteers are needed to muck in and help spruce up Lincolnshire’s green spaces.

People are being asked to help at a selection of nature spots and environmental projects. The volunteer days are part of this year’s Big Co-op Clean and have been put together by Lincolnshire Co-op.

The projects needing help range from school wildlife areas to community gardens and nature reserves, public parks and one of Lincolnshire’s beautiful beaches.

Members of the public will work together to trim hedges, create paths, garden and litter pick.

Colleagues from Lincolnshire Co-op will also dig in and help during the events, which start on Tuesday 6th June.

It’s all part of support being given to green space projects under Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions scheme this summer.

Senior Community and Education Co-ordinator Ben James said: “The groups all work incredibly hard to create and grow these green spaces.

“Together, we can carry out crucial tasks and maintenance to make sure they blossom for generations to come. We’d love to see more people join in, too.

“Volunteering takes place for a few hours each day, at separate locations. It doesn’t take long to register and you can do it online through our website.”

Members of the public can pitch in and help at the following locations and dates.

Most events taken place between 10am and 2pm unless otherwise stated:

  • High Flight Memorial Park, Wellingore on Tuesday 6th June – creating pathways, trimming hedges and creating flower beds.
  • Long Sutton Primary School on Thursday 8th June – gardening such as work on polytunnels, raised beds and clearing the forest area.
