Celebrating Wellbeing Walk scheme success

Lincolnshire Co-op has held two community events in Lincoln and Boston to celebrate the success of its Wellbeing Walk scheme, and the efforts of the Walk Leaders that facilitate this.
The events were attended by over 120 Walk Leaders, and were held at The Pyewipe Inn in Lincoln on Thursday 15th May and The Jakemans Stadium in Boston, home to Boston United Football Club, on Wednesday 28th May.
During the day, the volunteers had the opportunity to participate in a guided long or short Wellbeing Walk, listen to an update on how the co-op is further striving to help the community, and enjoy a buffet lunch.
Founders of the Love Local brands No.12 Chocolatier and Riviera Iced Tea attended, both giving talks and offering samples of their products to guests.
At Boston Football Club, Footballer Development Office Lewis Wright guided the attendees on a tour of the stadium. He showed them round the classrooms, demonstrating the club’s educational offering for young people, historical artifacts from the club in the chairman’s room, and the changing rooms to discuss their functionality and design choices.
Lincoln City Foundation joined the Lincoln event, hosting and encouraging the Walk Leaders to take part in health and wellbeing activities such as croquet.
Derek Smith, Horncastle Walk Leader, said: “We’ve been running our Wellbeing Walk for four years and we now have 16 members who regularly take part in our short and long walks.
“If it wasn’t for the walk none of us would have crossed paths and because of it we’ve developed into a large friendship group, as much as we are a walking group!”

The retailer is currently raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of its Community Champions scheme. Between the two celebration events, £224 was raised through raffle draws. Lauren Gray from Macmillan also gave a talk at each event to explain how they are supporting people living with cancer with funds such as public donations.
Lincolnshire Co-op Senior Community Co-ordinator Andrew Bullivant said: “We always have a fantastic time at the Wellbeing Walk celebration events. It’s great to talk to our volunteers about the walks, understand how we can further support these groups, and recognise their contributions.
“Thank you to all our Walk Leaders from across the local area and their contributions to making life better in our communities!
