A fruitful community project
Local people in Lincolnshire have been busy planting their own community orchards to help enhance wildlife and provide their areas with fresh, home-grown produce.
Lincolnshire Co-op donated £4959 through its Community Champions scheme to Lincolnshire County Council, that used the funds to buy trees and planting equipment.
The community project has seen 200 fruit trees planted across 10 sites, thanks to the efforts of local parish councils, schools and charities.
Dunholme Parish Council was one beneficiary of the scheme, and residents came together to plant 30 fruit trees within a couple of hours.
Tony Pache, Chairman of Dunholme Parish Council, said: “Planting our community orchard was a great way to have community-minded residents come together and give back to our local area.
“Thank you to Lincolnshire Co-op for providing funding to Lincolnshire County Council – the scheme will not only provide the community with fresh produce but will also enhance our environment and wildlife.”
