New Lincolnshire Co-op food store - Keelby

Keelby Exterior

A new £1.5m food store in Keelby has welcomed shoppers inside for the first time, introducing a range of new services to the area.

The Lincolnshire Co-op convenience store, based on South Street, opened on Thursday 26th August. It’s now open to customers seven days a week from 7am until 10pm.

The store has an innovative eco-friendly refrigeration system that recycles energy produced to heat the store, resulting in a lower global warming impact. Energy usage is also reduced by around 20% due to the installation of fridge doors throughout. A soft plastic recycling service – for items like crisp packets, food wrapping, and ready meal lids - is also available in store.

From September 6th, shoppers will be raising money for local food sustainability group Green Futures through the Community Champions scheme, which sees a donation made to a good cause every time a member shops at a Lincolnshire Co-op outlet. To mark the opening event, £500 donations were made to Keelby Youth Club as well as Keelby Village Hall, where the money will be used to improve outdoor communal spaces at both venues.

Store Development Manager Matt Wilkinson said: “We’re excited to welcome our new customers inside and showing them what we have to offer. The support from the local community has been fantastic and people seem really pleased with the wide range of products.”

Lincolnshire Co-op has its own membership scheme and members receive benefits including dividend when they shop, a yearly bonus and extra dividend on different ranges, such as the Love Local range which features food and drinks products sourced from nearby Grimsby.

The barn-style building has been designed to complement the character of the area and reflect the agricultural history of the site. Architecture details like roof trusses over the entrance and decorative brick corbels add a traditional touch. Materials such as red brick and red pantile tiles pay reference to nearby buildings.

Our new store manager, Patrick Sutton, has recorded a short video message to welcome you to our new store:

As we're unable to hold our usual in-store opening ceremony and meet you all in person just yet, we held an online launch event on Zoom on Tuesday 24th August 2021.

Those who joined us on the night had the opportunity to find out more about our new store, our Society purpose and approach, community champions scheme, benefits of being a member and hear from our guest speakers.

Whenever we open a new store, we like to mark the occasion with some donations to local good causes and we were delighted to be joined at our online launch event by two of these - guests from Keelby Youth Club and Keelby Village Hall, both of whom were presented with a £500 donation.

Thank you to all who joined us on the night - we hope you found it interesting.
