Support with planning a baby or child’s funeral

Support with planning a baby or child’s funeral

The loss of a baby or child is one of the most devastating experiences a family can face. In these moments of profound grief, even the smallest decisions can feel overwhelming.

At Lincolnshire Co‑op, we understand the depth of this heartbreak, and we are here to offer gentle guidance, practical support and compassionate care every step of the way.

Our role is to help you create a farewell that honours your child’s life, with tenderness, dignity and love.

A gentle, supportive approach

When a baby or child dies, families often feel lost, shocked or unable to process what comes next. Our colleagues are trained to support you with patience and sensitivity, taking the time to listen, understand your wishes and guide you at a pace that feels right for you.

There is no rush. There is no expectation. We are here to walk alongside you.

Arranging the funeral

Every family is different, and every child’s farewell is unique. Some families choose a small, private ceremony; others prefer a more traditional service. Whatever you decide, we will help you create something meaningful and personal.

Type of service

  • A simple, quiet gathering
  • A religious or non‑religious ceremony
  • A celebration of life
  • A private family farewell

We can help you find a minister, celebrant or faith leader who understands the sensitivity of baby and child funerals.

Coffins, caskets and personal touches

We offer a range of options suitable for babies and children, including:

  • Soft, gentle designs in traditional or natural materials
  • Personalised pictograph coffins from our Reflections® range
  • Eco‑friendly choices such as willow or cardboard
  • Ashes caskets and scatter tubes in child‑appropriate sizes

Many families choose to include personal items such as toys, blankets, drawings or letters. We will guide you through what is possible and help you create a tribute that feels right for your child.

Transport and ceremony details

Our funeral vehicles are maintained to the highest standard and handled with great care. Some families prefer a traditional hearse; others choose something smaller or more personal.

Whatever you decide, we will ensure the journey is dignified and respectful.

Music, readings and symbolic gestures, such as releasing bubbles, lighting candles or choosing a favourite colour theme, can also bring comfort and meaning.

Memorials and keepsakes

Many families find solace in creating a lasting tribute to their child. We offer a range of thoughtful options, including:

  • Headstones and memorial masonry
  • Renovation of existing family memorials
  • Remembrance benches, bird boxes and crosses
  • Memory bears made from cherished clothing
  • In Memory Pins for mourners
  • Fingerprint jewellery and Ashes into Glass® pieces
  • Memorial seeds to plant in their honour

These keepsakes can help you feel close to your child in the weeks, months and years that follow.

Bereavement support

We encourage you to:

  • Lean on family and friends
  • Seek specialist bereavement support if you feel overwhelmed
  • Take time to rest and care for yourself
  • Honour your child in small, meaningful ways

Our team is always here to listen, guide and support you, not just during the funeral arrangements but afterwards too.

You are not alone

No parent or family expects to face the loss of a child. If you are going through this, please know that you do not have to navigate it alone. Your local Lincolnshire Co‑op funeral director is here to offer compassion, clarity and care at every stage.
