Old Wood Organic Farm

Old wood organic

Old Wood Organic Farm are a “no dig” organic farm who produce fruit, vegetables and herbs. Their aim is to make their farm accessible for everyone.

Old Wood Organic Farm were a Community Champion during our 2021 Autumn Food Projects Quarter in the Hykeham and Skellingthorpe areas. During this time £10,058 was raised. Atma and Ben were delighted with the amount raised and said it would go a long way to helping their project get off the ground. The Community Champions funding was used for the woodchip to make the pathway to the farm accessible. They were also able to sort out the compost toilet and have submitted plans to develop and renovate the barn area. Plus putting in a request for a tree survey.

Anna-Marie recently visited Old Wood Organic Farm to find out how things have developed since they received the funding. They now have a weekly forest school and home education groups who attend. Each year they’ve had two cohorts of 8-week opportunities teaching therapeutic horticulture and forestry. They host the HAF project in the school holidays. They hold yoga for wellbeing courses that can be booked through a referral system. There’s also monthly, sustainable eco crafts which include willow weaving, flower pressing and story telling. Plus, there’s lots more planned for the future.

Atma said our funding was the first funding they’d ever received, and this gave them the confidence to go ahead with their plans in the way they really wanted to, making the farm ethical. Atma and Ben felt that the way the money was raised by the local community made it extra special because their farm is for the local community, and they feel like it’s now “paying it forward” Atma would like to say to anyone who is thinking of applying “do it, because it will give you the confidence to do anything you want to do without cutting corners.”
