Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare

Picture2

Lindsey Lodge provides specialist care across the whole of North Lincolnshire to patients with life-limiting conditions and support for families and carers during the illness and into the bereavement period. Care is free to patients and their families, but it’s not free to provide. As a charity they rely on the generosity of local people and organisations to raise £4.4 million each year to keep Lindsey Lodge running and its services free of charge.

Lindsey Lodge has received a total of £5,786.57 so far from Lincolnshire Co-op Community Champions scheme. This funding spans over the full 10 years starting with £320.26 in 2013 and £4,686.71 in 2021. They are currently our Spring Community Champions for the Hospice Quarter.

Community Champions funding has contributed to the increase in the Hospices bed capacity. In 2022 they went from 10 to 16 beds, to meet the increased needs of the community. Lindsey Lodge also introduced a 24/7 care advice line called The Butterfly Line. This ensures that patients, families and carers can call at anytime of the day or night with any worries or questions to speak to specialist trained nurses. This gives so much peace of mind to our local community, whilst relieving pressure on the NHS 111 helpline. There are not many services out there like this, so its very special for our North Lincolnshire Community to have and without funding it wouldn’t be possible.

Community Co-ordinator Jenny caught up with the Community Fundraising team - Selina, Emma and April to talk about our Community Champions 10 years celebrations. They work so hard for this special cause to ensure it can continue and they really care about their community, even providing a last minute wedding recently. Selina said “We feel very privileged to have been chosen as Community Champions, having been amongst some amazing groups and charities.” When asked how they feel knowing the money is raised by the local Community. Selina said “We love our local community and supporters, they know they are helping people locally because 100% of everything raised comes straight into the hospice”

Like all charities, Lindsey Lodge struggled to keep going and rise vital funds through Covid. They had 6 dedicated support groups across North Lincolnshire spanning from Barton to Crowle. These groups would consistently put on events and activities all in aid of Lindsey Lodge. Now there is only 1 group left, which is in Messingham – they do an incredible job at supporting Lindsey Lodge. April said they’d love for more groups like this to re-from. They are in need of Volunteer Bucket Collectors and Volunteer Tin Rotators out in the community who would be willing to look after an area – it would be a small role but would have a huge impact - it could even be collecting from a shop where they live.

Volunteer Paul said “As a volunteer you are always made to feel welcome, part of the team and can be involved to the level that fits around yourself. The staff are friendly, supportive and engaging and I always enjoy the activities I am involved in. I would recommend volunteering for the hospice to anyone who has some time to give”

Lincolnshire Co-op will continue the support of Lindsey Lodge Hospice by fundraising, donations of raffle prizes, sharing activities and signposting for volunteers. This is the impact of Community Champions – it’s more than just funding.
