People are gearing up for a huge cycling event in Scunthorpe – and Lincolnshire Co-op wheelie wants you to join in the fun!
The Society is sponsoring stage three of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain, which arrives in North Lincolnshire on Tuesday 5th September.
The race will see 120 elite cyclists test their bodies and minds on a tough 172 kilometre course, starting at scenic Normanby Hall Country Park.
And nine Lincolnshire Co-op stores are handing out bright hand flags and noisy thunder-sticks with any purchase to help spectators cheer them on.
The stores have already been adorned with bunting and banners and will be giving away the freebies from the weekend before the race.
Four of them are close to the route – Crowle, Haxey, Messingham and Kirton in Lindsey – so spectators can easily take a pit stop and grab tasty meal deals, food and drinks to go.
Community and Engagement Manager Sam Turner said: “We’re proud to support the community around Scunthorpe through our outlets, including our new Goxhill Food Store, so we’re excited to see the Tour of Britain return to the area.
“As well as the action at our nine local food stores, our Lincolnshire Co-op van will hand out flags and thunder-sticks along the route. Plus, our inflatable health pod will offer free advice on everything from blood pressure to asthma in Central Park, near the finish line.
“The race is a fantastic chance to show off Scunthorpe’s centre along with the stunning surrounding country routes, and we hope it gives local businesses a boost.”
Store Manager at Crowle Food Store Daniel Toon said: “The store looks fantastic with its decorations. There’s even a bright green bike, which has certainly got everyone talking!
“We’re excited to be helping people join in the fun - it’s a pleasure to be involved in the event.”
The Tour of Britain is an epic contest which starts in Edinburgh on Sunday 3rd September. Competitors will finish the eighth and final stage on Sunday 10th September in Wales.
