Since the Community Champions scheme launched in 2013, we’ve helped a wide range of local groups and charities to make life better in their communities.
The Community Champions scheme is just one of the ways that we share our profits with the community. Every time a member shops at one of our branches using their dividend card, a donation is made through the scheme. Proceeds from the carrier bag levy and fundraising by colleagues also go into the pot.
The Biz in Boston – a local performing arts school was one of our Community Champions in 2021.
By our members shopping with their dividend card, donating their odd pence and contributing to our fundraising efforts - they helped us donate £821.91 to the group.
The money will be used to help them get a brand new dance floor, find out more below.
Newark Community First Aid provide vital first aid services to Newark and the surrounding area. They volunteer at events in the area as well as providing first aid training. Money from the Community Champions scheme has helped them purchase vital equipment which can help save lives.

Little Conkers Pre-School, Ruskington at Chestnut Street CofE Academy received their donation in summer 2020 and they couldn't be more thrilled.
"We were over the moon with our grant which enabled us to purchase a woodwork bench and child sized tools – our 3 and 4 year olds love their woodworking sessions! Thank You!"
Louth Men’s Shed aims to tackle the issues of social isolation and related mental health concerns for vulnerable adults. The group previously received more than £540 through our Community Champions scheme and according to Chairman Martin Peck, these donations fund services that can be a lifeline for some people.
“We’ve created a space where men can socialise and learn new skills but, more than that, a place where people can find a listening ear when they need it,” said Martin.
Newark in Bloom were Community Champions during the first community quarter in 2021, and with the donation, the group hopes to purchase planters and flowers for Newark Castle train station, so tourists are greeted by impressive floral arrangements as soon as they step onto the platform.
The group also plans to buy seeds to create wildflower patches in parks and schools to encourage butterflies and bees which they hope will bring families to engage with the local environment.
Grantham RiverCare, has big plans for the donation it’s set to receive. Co-Leader Ian Simmons says: “We hope to purchase educational tools such as a ‘riverfly monitoring kit’ which will allow us to engage with groups to study the ecology of the river.
Additionally, we plan to buy equipment for the future to ensure we can carry on our essential work on our 1.8 mile stretch of the River Witham.”

We fundraise for different causes every three months - it can be good causes tackling a local topical or social need, health groups, environmental groups and local community groups and good causes.

As well as Community Champions we also offer support with fundraising by donating raffle prizes or refreshments. If you have fundraising event coming up, then please take a letter in to your local food store to ask for help.
