Play equipment boost for school
Youngsters can let their imagination run wild during break time thanks to new play equipment which can be transformed into a range of shapes and landscapes.
Members of the Friends of John Blow Primary School in Collingham have been able to buy a range of ‘Snug’ apparatus, large brightly coloured rubber and foam shapes which can be used separately or together in any combination.
Funding for the kit came from Lincolnshire Co-operative, which gave the school a £500 Community Dividend grant. The pupils’ School Council raised another £200 by holding fundraising non-uniform days with a summer and a Christmas theme.
Headteacher Helen Richardson said: “The children are already really enjoying the equipment. I’ve seen them turn the pieces into all kinds of things – a tunnel, a bridge and even a pirate ship.
“Because they can constantly reassemble the shapes into different landscapes the equipment stimulates their imagination and gets them involved.”
Lincolnshire Co-operative shares its profits with its members in a number of ways, including by giving donations and grants to good causes.
Decisions on applications for Community Dividend grants are made by members, people from Lincolnshire and Newark, who sit on the Member Services Council.
